Laser Safety Training

Laser Safety Training is, by far, the most important factor involved in the laser training process.  One of the main reasons why laser training schools have been developed is to teach individuals going into the aesthetic laser industry laser safety.  When first observing a laser procedure, to many it seems like a very simple treatment to perform—all you do is point and shoot--unfortunately there are several factors involved in the laser process that allow experienced technicians to deliver safe, effective treatments that get clients positive results; factors that need to be learned in a proper school setting.

The number one concern when discussing Laser Safety Training is the interaction between laser and skin.  Non-invasive aesthetic lasers follow the theory of selective photothermolysis; this theory describes how non-invasive laser light is attracted to pigment.  During laser hair removal, the laser is attracted to the pigment in the hair follicles, for brown spot/age spot removal the laser is attracted to darker or lighter spot pigment.  During vein removal, the laser is attracted to the pigment in the veins and for tattoo removal the laser is attracted to the tattoo pigment.

It is important to know that while hair, spots, veins and tattoos all contain pigment your skin contains pigment as well.  The melanin or pigment in your skin is what gives it its color so in order for any of these treatments to be effective, there must be a difference between the pigment in your skin and the pigment in the specific ailment you are treating.  If the laser parameters are not set correctly, the laser energy could not only effect the treated ailment, but it could affect the outward appearance of the skin as well.

Improper use of any aesthetic laser can result in several side effects including burning, hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation.  Hyper- and hypo-pigmentation fortunately are not permanent side effects, but burning could lead to scarring or even infection.  This is why Laser Safety Training is so important.  There are more to aesthetic treatments than just pointing and shooting a laser; interested individuals can learn about all of this and more at any reputable laser training program.  For more information, contact a laser training facility today.
