Hair Replacement
There is one thing we all fear as we get older and that is hair loss. Some blame genetics, but there are other reasons for hair loss, some being: disease, infection, medication and stress.
Hair growth is triggered simply by the blood flow to the scalp and hair follicles. Maximum blood flow allows for minimal hair loss. As blood ceases to flow into the follicles, they eventually die resulting in hair loss.
There are two different procedures that involve the use of lasers to restore the hair of the head. The first is hair replacement surgery and the second is laser hair transplantation.
Hair Replacement Surgery:
For those facing the inevitability of losing their hair, hair replacement surgery is a realistic solution. Don't let the name fool you because this procedure is not surgical. It does not take hair from any other place on your body and it does not involve anything other than your own hair. It is a scientific process meant to provide natural results.
The procedure is performed by a micro-laser that probes the hair follicles on your head. By delivering pulses from the laser light's beam directly to the roots, it stimulates the blood flow in the scalp. This increased blood flow energizes the hair and allows your natural hair to continue living.
This procedure is not going to produce dramatic results. It simply causes your hair to remain living, whereas without it, the hair would simply die and fall out. By receiving this treatment, you will effectively be able to dramatically slow down hair loss.
Hair replacement surgery slows down hair loss rate for a very reasonable price. Monthly visits are required but they are very short and most often pain free. Average yearly costs for this treatment are between $1,500 and $3,000. For those with a limited budget and a realistic view on hair loss prevention results, this procedure is optimal.
Laser Hair Transplantation:
Laser hair transplantation is a little bit more involved than hair replacement surgery. This procedure takes grafts of hair from the side or back of the scalp and with use of a laser the grafts are inserted into areas on the head that are hairless.
A laser is used to create micro-incisions in the scalp for the insertion of hair. Insertion holes are created in the scalp with a pulsing laser. Once created, a small metal probe is used to increase the opening of the insertion point so that blood vessels are stimulated and begin interaction with the inserted hair follicle. Hair follicle grafts are then prepared and placed into the insertion holes.
This is a surgical procedure and it is performed under local anesthetic. One session of transplantation surgery usually takes anywhere from 3 to 4 hours. Normal sessions plant 200 to 500 grafts per session. Patients can return home following each session.
Some bleeding does occur at the site of the insertion holes, but it is much less than those that occur with non-laser surgeries. After surgery, a bandage is placed over the treatment area which is removed the next day at a follow-up appointment. Most patients are fully recuperated the day after the procedure. Small scabs will form over the grafting sights but will usually fall off anywhere from 10 days to two weeks after the procedure. The grafts take about three to six months to fully grow in.
This is an excellent procedure that quickly solves the problem of hair loss. This is a permanent surgery that results in completely natural hair. The procedure allows for a quick recovery, no significant side effects and no scarring. Laser hair transplantation does involve a high initial cost, but the results can be worth it. Each procedure varies depending on the size of the area needing transplantation, and most cost around $3,000. Nearly all patients require at least four sessions in order to complete the grafting, but natural permanent hair can be well worth the time and effort.
What Does This Mean To Me?
These two procedures are extremely different in terms of cost and results. They both use leading edge laser technology in order to reduce hair loss or replace hair all together. They are two excellent options for those who are interested in putting an end to their hair loss problems.
